Newsweek – Stuff I Love: The BookArc

“It’s a ridiculously simple idea.”

It’s not every day you get mentioned or reviewed in Newsweek. Pretty cool. Even cooler Dan Lyons (aka Fake Steve Jobs) is the author. He totally gets the BookArc and is a complete Mac nut. He ends with a nice overview of our little company called Twelve South.

It’s a tiny company in Charleston, S.C., called Twelve South, and when I say tiny, I mean it’s one guy, his wife, and two employees. Like, really tiny.”

We may only be four employees right now – but that’s a 100% increase from the beginning of the year :P

If you’re looking for BookArc or BackPack at a US retail store…

If you are a ‘complete Mactard‘ like us and BookArc or BackPack is on your Holiday wishlist, here are US retail stores you can find a BookArc or BackPack this Holiday season.

Apple Store US and Canada/Europe/Australia/Japan. We are so proud to say Twelve South products are available in most Apple Stores on the planet. The dream store (remember when there weren’t Apple Stores?) is host to the BookArc and BackPack. The team there will be happy to help find them for you. Hint – they’re usually in the Mac Accessories section near Apple adapters and cables.

Best Buy. Best Buy locations that have the Apple Store-within-a-Store all have BookArcs and BackPacks. They just arrived (Nov 09) so pop in and make sure they look good on display for us. If you don’t see them out and available – ask. They should be there and the great Best Buy staff will be happy to help you find them.

Of course, you don’t have to get out of your PJs to get your Twelve South goods delivered to your doorstep. We are still offering FREE shipping in the US right from Twelve South.com.

BookArc is featured on the cover of Macworld!

Macworld Dec09 Cover

Wow. We don’t know what to say. It’s our version of ‘being on the cover of Rolling Stone’! The BookArc is on the cover of Macworld just 15 weeks after the company launched! We all just stopped and stared at it for a minute – then got back to work.

We’re totally honored by the accolade, but it makes us just work harder to make even more cool stuff exclusively for the Mac. We’re thrilled that Macworld thinks we’re off to a good start! Thanks Macworld.

MacBook Stand In Speed-Boosting Shocker | Gadget Lab | Wired.com

MacBook Stand In Speed-Boosting Shocker | Gadget Lab | Wired.com.

Great validation on the Speed Boosting effects of the BookArc. You can try the same test too. If you are currently using a MacBook connected to an external monitor in dual-screen mode – just close it. Run your MacBook closed while connected to your external. Now run a graphics intensive app like Photoshop, Lightroom, etc. Is it faster? Snappier? Wired thought it was. Now you only have one problem. How can you stand up your closed MacBook clean and out of the way on your desk?… Hmm.

Holy Cow! BookArc is on the Apple Store Homepage!

BookArc at the Apple Store Online

Don’t mean to get weepy, but our young company is on the Apple Store homepage – the APPLE STORE HOMEPAGE!!! Is there anything cooler than that? We are so honored and humbled to be a part of the Apple Store, the fastest growing Retail Store in history and the recipient of most of our disposable income : ) In case it goes away, here’s a screengrab for proof. Somebody tell our mammas. Be sure to visit the BookArc page on Apple Store Online (US) They have awesome pictures of the product there too.

12 new products a year

TIMM SAYS:
Great site and products, and I’m glad you’re out there. You only have 3 of the claimed 12 products out so I assume you’re new, and I can’t wait to see what else you create…

We need to change that to [up to] 12 new products a year : ) The point is, we don’t want to manage hundreds of SKUs. We want to produce a handful of unique products that that adds something new to the Mac platform. Can we do 12 great new ideas a year? Stay in touch and see how we do.

The BMW of Computer Accessories

I just got a loaner car – a BMW X5 – for a few days. I just have to say, it’s Be – U – T – ful. Really, I’m so impressed. The finish is flawless, sound system is the best I’ve ever heard, it drives, well, like a BMW. All the little details are so nice. The music slowly fades when you turn the car off. It’s just a little bit better than everything else. You feel that difference in almost everything they do.

Which brings me to the analogy. Twelve South is a new company with big goals and big ideas. We try to put extra thought and extra detail into everything we do. If you’ve seen our BookArc packaging or the 12 additional items in the BackPack, I think you’d agree. We don’t want to be the biggest accessory company in the world, we just want to be the best.

So, can a little company in Charleston SC be the ‘BMW of Mac accessories?’ I don’t know, but what an amazing goal to strive for. Did I mention the BMW X5 is built in South Carolina too? Maybe thats a sign.

You Never Forget Your First…

Just had our first interview as Twelve South. Had a great interview with Andy from our local Biz Journal. He asked all the hard questions and I only squirmed around and said ‘Umm” a few times : ) Overall a pretty good overview of our little start-up we call Twelve South. Thanks CRBJ!
