Ran across this simple clip on YouTube demonstrating BassJump On and Off. This is really the heart of the matter – MacBook sound ‘with’ BassJump and MacBook sound ‘without’ BassJump. Many have tried to compare BassJump to separate AC-powered speakers – but that misses the point of BassJump. BassJump is solely USB powered – so it goes ‘with’ your MacBook where ever it goes. There are a handful of great blogs dedicated exclusively to the Mac – and TUAW (The Unofficial Apple Weblog) is one of best. It’s on our required daily reading list and should be on yours too. That makes it even cooler that TUAW has reviewed the BassJump. Here are some highlights:

...if you have a need to pump good-quality sound out of a MacBook for a presentation, or just don’t want to be tied to a set of earbuds or headphones when listening to your iTunes library, the BassJump is a great solution.

In some cases, you may feel that the bass sound is too overwhelming. No problem! The system preferences allow you to adjust the crossover frequency and volume for the BassJump, or you can choose one of five presets (Classical, Default, Pop, R&B, and Rock) that optimize the BassJump for a specific music genre.

I think you’ll agree that the BassJump does an incredible job of providing the low frequency sounds that are missing from the built-in MacBook speakers.

It is normally fine to update the BassJump software right over the older version, but sometimes you just want to clear the deck. The quick way to uninstall BassJump SW is to right-click (or control-click) on the icon in System Preferences and select: ‘Remove “BassJump Sound System” Preference Pane’. There is a more thorough manual way to do this as well. Here are the steps:

First make sure the BassJump Menu item is inactive:

Open BassJump Preferences
Flip the back panel
Uncheck the “Show BassJump in Menu Bar” checkbox
Quit System Preferences

Then, move these files to the trash:

/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/bassJumpAudioBassPlugin.plugin

/Library/PreferenePanes/BassJump.prefPane

Reboot your Mac by restarting (or at least logging out then back in again).
