Backpack Unboxing « The Cheap Geek.

See how he opens the BackPack box from the bottom? That’s how everybody should do it. Nice and clean.

Christina, aka iChris, has a nice review of the BackPack. A highlight was the weight test. “With easiness, I lightly put it on there, and then let go, and it held up! Then I put my USB hub on it too, and it worked fine, and I kept on adding more and more and it just kept holding up. The BackPack is a deceptively simple product. Saw many comments like “it’s just a shelf. Heck I could make that myself”. Well, take a peek at this and you might change your mind. As it turns out, one size does not fit all. BackPack ships with14 additional items besides the shelf itself. This allows for a perfect and secure fit on dozens of different size iMacs and Cinema Displays – all without screwing anything directly into the Mac itself. How? Watch the video.

We finally released BackPack to the world with a short press release this week. The response was overwhelming. Gizmodo said “I am completely in love“. Engadget chimed in “Call us crazy (our parents sure have), but we think this thing is awesome“.  We think being mentioned in Gizmodo and Engedget is awesome because we read Gizmodo and Engadget, like, 100 times a day ourselves!

Wired said “The Backpack is an ingenious, gravity-secured shelf” And one of our favorite Mac sites TUAW wrote “BackPack is a clever and well-designed product.” We think all these sites are ‘clever and well designed’ – and all we can say is thank you, preesh, thanks and thanks so much! We need to change that to [up to] 12 new products a year : ) The point is, we don’t want to manage hundreds of SKUs. We want to produce a handful of unique products that that adds something new to the Mac platform. Can we do 12 great new ideas a year? Stay in touch and see how we do.
