BackPack in Macworld Magazine

MWNov09_gallery_iconWe’re big fans of Macworld Magazine. It’s been my Mac periodical companion since I began using Macs close to 20 years ago. So to see Twelve South’s first product, the BackPack, featured in the Nov 09 issue is close to the coolest thing ever. Visit the BackPack Gallery to see the full story. Better yet, go down to your local bookstore and buy a copy. We’re on the inside back cover – in the ‘Hot Stuff’ section (pg 100).

BackPack in good company at French blog CoolChic

In between a Maserati and a $300 Diesel watch, is our little BackPack shelf for iMac. You know it’s a cool site when their artwork for your product is cooler than yours. It is. As a side note, if you’re shopping for me for Christmas? – I want anything on this site : )

The most detailed review of BackPack ever

Liam Cassidy at The Apple Blog has done a great job reviewing the BackPack, but the YouTube video review he’s done in conjunction – is by far the most detailed review we’ve seen yet. If you have ‘any’ questions about the BackPack, how it works, what it looks like, etc. – he’s got you covered.

See how he opens the BackPack box from the bottom? That’s how everybody should do it. Nice and clean.

“I was afraid it was going to fall…” – BackPack Review

Christina, aka iChris, has a nice review of the BackPack. A highlight was the weight test. “With easiness, I lightly put it on there, and then let go, and it held up! Then I put my USB hub on it too, and it worked fine, and I kept on adding more and more and it just kept holding up. The BackPack can hold up to 5 pounds and it’s amazing.” Full Review: http://chrismarie.com/?p=178

Her ‘Unboxing’ is cool too. I love when people open up the BackPack and realize it’s a “little confusing at first but once you get it, it’s like, oh and then, yea,” [4:28] and “it’s not heavy, but it’ll make a loud sound if you drop it.” [3:40] Unboxing of the BackPack

Nice job Christina. Keep up the good work.

BackPack Installation video now live

The BackPack is a deceptively simple product. Saw many comments like “it’s just a shelf. Heck I could make that myself”. Well, take a peek at this and you might change your mind. As it turns out, one size does not fit all. BackPack ships with14 additional items besides the shelf itself. This allows for a perfect and secure fit on dozens of different size iMacs and Cinema Displays – all without screwing anything directly into the Mac itself. How? Watch the video.

Twelve South BackPack

We finally released BackPack to the world with a short press release this week. The response was overwhelming. Gizmodo said “I am completely in love“. Engadget chimed in “Call us crazy (our parents sure have), but we think this thing is awesome“.  We think being mentioned in Gizmodo and Engedget is awesome because we read Gizmodo and Engadget, like, 100 times a day ourselves!

Wired said “The Backpack is an ingenious, gravity-secured shelf” And one of our favorite Mac sites TUAW wrote “BackPack is a clever and well-designed product.” We think all these sites are ‘clever and well designed’ – and all we can say is thank you, preesh, thanks and thanks so much! See the complete list of BackPack mentions after the jump.
